About Us
Hello! We are Dave and Arianna. 2012 was a year of transformation for us. We were living in Orlando, and, though a series of serendipitous events, we heard about a place called the Hostel in the Forest in Brunswick, Georgia. We spent several weekends there, living in intentional community, chopping firewood, caring for the garden, looking after the chickens, cooking communal vegetarian suppers, canoeing, meditating, and meeting people. Each time we left, returning to the real world was a kind of culture shock, and we longed to stay in the Forest, dreaming about how we might be able to uproot our "real lives" and live/work there for several months.
One day, we simply woke up and decided to do it, decided to live our dream. In December 2012 I graduated from college, Dave quit his job, and we began preparing to travel across the country. We decided we would keep a blog to chronicle our journey and make use of my creative writing degree. We also decided to run an Etsy store to share Dave's art and our vintage thrifting finds.
Along with just traveling, we are staying at and participating in work exchanges throughout the country, where we work for several hours a day in exchange for room, board, and, most importantly, knowledge. We are also volunteering at events like the Asheville Organic Grower's School annual conference and the Mother Earth News Fair.
Our goals are to live simply and learn as much as possible about sustainable, back-to-the-land, and community lifestyles. We are interested in everything from organic gardening to chicken keeping, building structures from found materials, recycling and repurposing everything, making art, camping, and living a self-sufficient life. We hope to see the National Parks, be surrounded by nature, meet amazing people, and make lifelong connections and friendships.
Please visit our Etsy store here. Each purchase helps us get one mile further in our journey! Thank you for traveling along with us.
