Florida to Georgia

These are a few pictures from a neat old fort sort of building around Daytona Beach, Florida. It was a gorgeous day yesterday...the sky really was that blue!

Continuing down US 1 from Daytona, we followed a sign for scenic views off the main road and discovered Bulow Plantation Ruins Historic State Park. The winding dirt road to reach the park was really neat.

To save money on the entrance fee, we opted instead to check out a free hiking trail near the entrance to the state park. It had some amazing old growth trees! We took a picnic blanket and ate tangerines in a sun dappled patch of the trail and watched the birds above our heads. One loud bird cry in particular drew our eyes to the sky, and we were greeted by the sight of a bald eagle! Neither of us had ever seen one in the wild before. It was beautiful in flight.

We drove for a while after our walk, and rounded out our daylight hours by cooking some couscous and hot tea on our wood fired stove in a community park.

After a little more driving, we ended the day in Savannah, a city we're excited to explore today after a few hours spent in the public library.
